Rev. Steve Skaggs
Steven Skaggs has served as a minister in Kentucky Baptist churches for over 35 years. He began his ministry at his home church, Mt. Tabor Baptist, near Buffalo, Kentucky, before serving as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Tompkinsville, Valley View Baptist in Vine Grove, and Immanuel Baptist in Paducah. Steve most recently served as Senior Pastor of Muldraugh Hill Baptist, Lebanon, where he had previously been Minister of Music and Youth in the 1980s. He holds degrees from Campbellsville University and Southern Seminary. Steve, recently retired from full-time ministry, now feels a call to assist churches through interim service. He and his wife, Shirley, reside in Hodgenville. Their son, Matt, is a high school band director in Lexington. He and his wife, Melissa, have one daughter, Katie Beth.
Kristin Jones has attended Fern Creek Baptist Church her entire life. After filling several music leadership roles, she was hired as Associate Minister of Music in October of 2017. In addition to her position at FCBC, Kristin is the Choral Director at Westport Middle School. Kristin received all three of her degrees from the University of Louisville. She earned a Bachelor of Music (emphasis in Vocal Performance) and a Bachelor of Music Education in 2006. She then earned a Master of Music (emphasis in Choral Conducting) in 2008. Kristin and her husband, John, have one son, Jeremiah.
Joellen Tyler Johnston joined the staff of Fern Creek Baptist Church in March 2006. She is a native of Louisville and lives in Jeffersontown. Previously Joellen was the organist for ten years at Eastern Parkway Baptist and nearly eighteen years at Beechmont Baptist Church. She is a graduate of the University of Louisville and a local historian who has been a regular history columnist for two Spencer County newspapers. In 1997 she wrote Jeffersontown, Kentucky: The First 200 Years which was published by the city of Jeffersontown in celebration of their bicentennial.
Karen Love has been a member and pianist of Fern Creek Baptist Church since January, 2020 (after being part-time pianist since 2012). Karen previously was pianist or organist at churches in Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. She graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati) in 1981 and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983. Karen and her late husband Dave were married for 32 years and their two adult sons are Drew and Caleb.
Joy Stelly was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and moved to Louisville in 1989. Joy has three adult children: Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Christopher. She also has a son-in-law, Andy, and one grandson, Reece. Joy has been our Office Coordinator since January of 2014; she became a member of Fern Creek Baptist Church in April 2014. Joy is currently teaching Sunday School in the Preschool Department to the four and five year olds. Joy also serves on our Child Development Center Committee. Joy enjoys serving and ministering to all members of Fern Creek Baptist Church. She also loves sharing the gospel with people and celebrating with them when they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. In her spare time, Joy loves reading, crocheting, spending time with her family, and playing with her grandson.
Jodie Towles has been a member at Fern Creek Baptist Church since 2001. She has served as Bookkeeper since October 2011. Jodie previously served as Stewardship Chairperson and Treasurer. She graduated from Sullivan University in June 1996 with a Bachelor in Accounting and in March 2000 with her MBA. Jodie and her husband, Chris, currently teach 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School. They were married at Fern Creek Baptist Church in April 2006. They have one daughter, Emma Rae.
Leonard Westmorland began serving as the Director of Facilities at Fern Creek Baptist Church in July 2011. Leonard previously served in a similar capacity for more than 25 years at another church in Louisville. Leonard and his wife, Linda, are members of Farmdale Baptist Church and are active in ministry there. Between the two of them they have four daughters and eight grandchildren.
